Text Box: The first Siberians arrived in the US in 1990, making it a relatively new breed in that country. There are many who say that the Siberian is hypo-allergenic, although not proven scientifically, many people who are allergic to cats in general, able to enjoy the company of one of these wonderful animals.
Nor Arisham Bakar also has become the first Malaysian to own all the three forest cats; The Norwegian Forest Cat (Norway), The Maine Coon (America) and The Siberian (Russia).
"To bring the Siberian in Malaysia required a lot of sacrifices, the whole world knows that the Siberian is not cheap and very hard to find. I'm lucky to have a friend, Nadia Jaffar, in Singapore who breeds them. Both of us want to see Siberian being shown in Malaysia." Nor Arisham added.
Malaysians can have the opportunity to see the Siberian and many more beautiful breeds in the upcoming November show, MyCATS'07. EN

Matreshka Tamara Chernavka, also known as Tamya, has secured a place in Malaysia's history for being the first Siberian (A Russian Native Cat) ever been imported.

"It's worth of 18 years of waiting, since the Feline Society of Malaysia was established and now we can see all 3 different forest cats being shown in Malaysia." said Nor Arisham Bakar, the proud owner of Tamya.

Tamya did not actually come from Russia, she was bred in Singapore by Matreshka Cattery which brought their lines from  Miakoschka in Australia.

The Siberian cat originated from Russia and has been around for about a thousand years, according to recorded history. They are a large hearty breed with semi-long fur. Males can weigh on the average, 12-18 lbs. (some larger), females 10-13 lbs.. This cat tends to be slow in maturing, taking about five years. There are no known health problems in relation to this breed, more than likely as a result of having to survive such harsh conditions in the Siberian Forests.
