Arisham...saya ingin membeli kucing pedigree..boleh saya tahu terdapat berapa quality kucing pedigree dan berapa lingkungan harganya?

Mimie

Terima Kasih kerana melawat laman web Feline Malaysia...

Walaupun begitu, tidaklah menjadi kesalahan jika ia dibawa bertanding. Cuma, harapan untuk menang adalah tipis.

Show Quality (RM2000-RM3000)

Top Show Quality (upper RM 3000)

Apabila anda membeli kucing pedigree; pastikan anda mendapat perkara-perkara berikut :-
1. Sijil CFA
2. Vaccination record / Health Cert
3. Agreement Jual-Beli yang dipersetujui bersama..

Hi!

saya Hazran, saya pengemar kucing sejak kecil lagi.

terima kasih,

Hazran

Terima Kasih Hazran kerana melawat laman web Feline Society of Malaysia...

1. Tujuan
Terlebih dahulu, tanya diri anda, apakah tujuan anda menjadi pembiak-baka??.

Arisham,

I saw you explaining the cat to the crowds and very old couple in last Sabah show. You're the true ambassador!.

Sheera

Thank You, Sheera.

I loved being Ambassador. Part of my duty is explaining the CFA, Cat Show, Cat breeds to the spectators. Ofcourse, in the cat fancy there is always different opinion and politics...BUT I never brings that to the show hall!. Yeah, I so shocked when I saw two very old couple (80's) that came to visit the show, and their came from as far as Johor!. I loved talking to the crowds even though in reality I'm a very quiet person. One family even bought me a drink just because they said they feel very honored when i explain about the cats to them.

Arisham

Dear Arisham,

I've enter my cat under under Household pet in last Borneo Cat Show. One the first day, my cat win nothing so I decided not to show on the second day. How to win?

Erm. Firstly, you must know that the judges have the different opinion and preference on the cat. Means, if you cat doesn't final in the first ring, THAT DOESN'T mean you will not stand a chance on the second ring. I've seen a cat that doesn't final in it's 3 first rings and went to SECOND PLACE in the last ring!. So, anything can happen. For pedigree..we can predict more or less...but you'll never know in HHP. Your cat maybe stress in the first day...but calm on the second day. So my advise, if you love showing...keep on showing!. Win never comes easily. For HHP..First make sure your cat is healthy, second, well-groomed, third playful ('manja')..if your cat have all this..you might stand a chance to win. ;)

Buyer's Guideline - BY Dr. Moonyza Akmal

We always hear about the breeders etiquette in this forum. But not to forget the buyers also have to follow certain etiquette in dealing with the breeders, so that the communication and transaction can conclude in harmonious way.

Merely as a guideline to the buyers - here are some of the etiquette to be considered :

DO’S

1. Read the material on the breeder’s website carefully
Often, the website includes a sample contract, adoption application and purchase policy in addition to most information that may answer your question. If you’re not willing to abide by the policy, don’t waste your and the breeder’s time.

2. Be patient
Don’t expect an immediate response when you email. Most breeders have jobs and family to take care of or even could be at a show or out of town for the weekends.

3. Fill out the pertinent inquiry form or respond to all the breeder’s question
Most breeders are very cautious when placing kittens in homes, especially as breeders. If you won’t furnish the necessary information when asked, then don’t be surprised when breeders don’t get back to you. Quite honestly, if you’re too lazy to fill out a simple form or to respond to their question – then breeders have every right to question whether you will take the kitty’s best interest at heart if the need arises.

4. Note what colors the breeder gets on his/her website
Breeders get really annoyed when people email them asking for colors they don’t have and most sites say specifically what they get. For example, AAA Persians Cattery doesn’t offer whites, Himalayan or shaded silvers/goldens. So don’t bother that breeder by asking her about a blue eyed white, because she’s not going to get back to you

5. Make sure this is the cat you want before you put a deposit.Deposits are non-refundable for most breeders. Don’t try to manipulate around a breeder’s deposit policy.

6. Realize breeders are not under any obligation to sell you a cat.
You are not doing them a favor by buying one. They are doing you a favor by entrusting you with one of their furry children. Just because you inquire, show up at their home or even put a deposit on a kitty (without being asked), doesn’t obligate them in any way to complete the transaction.

DON’T :

1. Bother the breeder with only “how much”
Bother emailing the breeder just wanting to know ‘how much’ without providing much information about yourself. This tells the breeder that your only interest is the price not the kitty. If you’re looking for a ‘cheap’ kitty, there are local rescue agencies (SPCA). Furthermore if any enquiry sends without any introduction about yourself (your real name, your interest, your experience with cats, etc…) it could be considered as ‘rude enquiry’ – since you’re asking them to entrust you one of their family members. And don’t blame the breeder if they don’t bother to reply your enquiry.

2. Expect a breeder to refer you to other breeder
It’s not their obligation to try to find you another breeder. It is a courtesy if they wish to do so. Your best bet is to do a search on your own.

3. Pester the breeder unnecessarily
Don’t contact the breeder repeatedly about a kitten. Be patient and wait for the breeder to get back to you.

4. Go cattery hopping
Don’t shopping around just to know the price. Do know that breeders do communicate with each other and know when a buyer is playing one breeder against another.

5. Try to barter the price down
You’re adding a member to your family not purchasing a used car. Most breeders get extremely insulted when you treat them as such. Except if you have a very valid reason in doing so.

6. Insult their kitties.
As earlier explained, most breeders think of their kitties as their furry children. Just because you don’t like a certain color doesn’t make it ugly. Just because a cat may snort doesn’t make it sickly. How would you like it if someone commented on how ugly your 4-year old daughter is? That is just plain rude.

How to groom a cat?

o.k here is general basic grooming (not a show grooming).

FIRST COMB

1. Use comb to take out dead hair. Cut any matted if necessary but be extremely careful. Check also if there any fleas or skin problem. If your cat suffer from a lots of dead hair, then its coat must be dry or skin problem.
2. Cut their nails and check the nails, if the nails is dirty then your cat must have an ear problem (as scat will scratch their ears).
3. Check the ear for any ear mites, yeast or anything. Should only dirty, clean the outer ear with cutton buds (gently) for a little inner side use ear cleaner and wipes with facial cottons.
4. Check nose, eyes, coat for any problems. Some coat may dry - usually because lack of water or coat vitamins.

BATHING

1. I use All Systems Syampoo (save for all colors), or whatever syampoo you have pls follow the instructions.
2. Do not use cold water, use warm water.
3. i do not bath the cat first, i put the syampoo and a little water (mixed) and spray on them. Gently massage. Be extra cautions on paws, backside.
4. Then flush them with water. Face to be avoided. Use wet towel for face.
5. Dry them using towel (or in my case, I use chamois towel).

DRYING

Most of people, like to put their cat in the sun for drying. This is BAD. Because, some of dark colors may spoilt with sun bathing and your cat have to lick itself till dry which cause of hairballs (some hairballs that stuck inside stomach is dangerous).

1. Use cage if you need to. Blow them dry using blower or you may use fan (for shorthair, use only fan-or skip this).
2. After dry, blow them again with hot air (such as hair dryer). Make sure the coat really dried or your cat will suffer matted.
3. Gently comb them, start with wide-tooth brush and when everythings fine, using the finer one.
4. Finally use shedding comb to take out all the dead hair once again..
5. Give them some threats. Up you go!

NOTE : Some of this guide is not suitable for Sphynx

Dear Arisham,

Can you advised me how to become a breeder?. I'm still new in cat fancy. I'm planned to breed a Birman.Thank you.

Zulfakar.

Dear Zulfakar,

It's not easy to become a breeder. Here I list a few steps for you to be a  breeder :-

1. First, learn how to take care a cat.

2. Start by reading and find all articles about Birman

3. After you already familiarize with its profile and standards, you may search in the CFA web to find your most appropriate breeder.

4. Do not buy entire first, As you don't have any experience in Birman, I would suggest you get yourself a Neuter Show. Show neuter much easy to take care.

5. Show your cat and learn all everything you can about Birman. You may have to make friends with a lots of Birman breeders around the world.

6. To be successful, you also need to learn how to groom a Birman.

7. After gain so much experiences in showing Birman, now you will need to learn how to bred a Birman.

8. Start by learn and read how to take care pregnant cats and kittens, breeding ethics etc. You can ask many breeders in Malaysia, I'm sure they willing to share their knowledge.

Some of them may help you to become introducer to get a good Birman lines.

9. You may have to learn genetics, colors etc.

10. Find all the Birman breeder that have proven. Buy a good different lines.

11. Start your breeding.

To be a successful breeder, it may take all knowledge, money and time. Be patient, do not make profit as your main goal. What the most important things is to produce a good Birman.

As I can recall, there is only one Birman breeder in Malaysia. Hillbedz. If you serious, you can email me for his number.

Dear FSM,

I saw many beautiful cats in your website. I saw some of them got title like DW, GC, GP, PR, CH. Can you tell me what the difference between these titles and which one is better?.

Sorry, I'm new

Ida

Dear Ida,

I'm always delighted to answer new cat fanciers' !. ;)

O.k.. all cats in Championship (entire) and Premiership (neuter/spay) Class will begin their quest as OPEN cats. All OPEN Cats will compete among their same color, sex and breed class to collect Winner Ribbon (Red, White & Blue). For example, a red male Maine Coon will only compete with other red male Maine Coon (if any). Should there are no other red male Maine Coon in the show, the cat will automatically collect the Winner Ribbons.

For Malaysia (International Division (Asia/Latin America) ) we just need 4 Winner Ribbons (WR) - some Division needs 6, once the cat has collected the 4 WR, the owner can claimed the cat as CH (Championship) or PR (Premier). Usually, CH & PR not so hard to get, you just need a right time to show you cat.

After the cat has become CH or PR, their will start competing for Grand title (Grand Champion or Grand Premier), this a very hard quest. To grand a cat, the cat need 25 points (Premiership) or 75 Points (Championship) in our Division. - (200 points fr GC, 75 points fr GP - in US, Canada, Japan). There are a few ways a CH or PR can collect its Grand points ;

a) Become Best of Breed or Division (Purple Ribbons)

b) Become Best, 2nd. or 3rd. Longhair OR Shorthair Champions /

Best, 2nd. Longhair OR Shorthair Premier

c) Be in FINAL (top 10 cats Premiership or Championship - Rosettes)

Once the said points has been collected, CFA will send the owner a Grand Premier/Champion Certificate, the cat also will be listed in the Year Book.

Some of these cats become ONE SHOW GRAND, which mean it can complete its Grand title in just one show, such cats are consider a very good quality (top show quality).

Remember title CH, PR, GP or GC are NOT entitled for Kitten Class (4-8 Months).

Read More about Grand title : http://www.pandecats.com/x/calculating_grand_points.htm

For Higher title, such as DW (Divisional Winner), NW (National Winner) or RW (Regional Winner) the cats (kitten class included) has to compete entire season from Mei-April to stay :-

a) 15 High scores for Championship Class

b) 10 High scores for Premiership Class

c) 15 High scores for Kitten Class

This effected for only for DW BUT for RW & NW titles :-

a) 25 High scores for Championship Class

b) 20 High scores for Premiership Class

c) 20 High scores for Kitten Class

These title is very exclusive and very hard to achieved and also very costly, as the cat has to travel to other countries in the said Division to collect more points. It's every breeder dream!!!.

Read More about DW, RW & NW titles : http://www.pandecats.com/x/calculating_regional_national_points.htm

Other than that title, you may find few more titles such as :-

a) DM (Distinguished Merit) - For Sire that produced 15 Grands offspring / Dam that produced 5 Grands offspring

b) BW (Breed Winner) - Entire cat that achived the highest scores in its breed.

Please visit our HALL OF FAME to see all the cats in Malaysia that achieved this titles.

Do not hesitate to email me should you need more details;

arisham

Dear Arisham,

What is the best way to explain to people who thinks and believes that

they have a Persian cat when the cat happens to have a long hair and

semi flat face and no certificates/pedigree?

What is the best way to explain to someone who has been breeding and

selling DLH as "Pure Persian" for a staggering price of RM800 and

above that those are NOT Persians but just DLH?

It's unbelievable as to how many people out there regard any long hair

cats as Persians and long hair plus semi flat face as Pure Persians...

*smacks-my-own-head*

I have 2 DSH at home (one with semi long hair and fluffy tail) and am

just happy as they are without needing to claim one is Persian, one is

Bengal...

I hope you can guide me on this :)

Thanks very much for your time :)

Regards,

Diyana

Dear Diyana,

Thank You for a very good question. I've been talking to hundreds of people who always claimed that their cat is a persian just because they have a long hair and flat face.

Well, I usually ask whether your cats got a certificates either from CFA or any other cat registry body.
And If they say NO, they i said so, your cat must be a mixed with persian or it can be mixed with other breeds, you never know since you cannot trace your cat lines. In cat world, there is nothing as mixed cat, it not permit able, when the cats has been mixed, we will call it DLH (for longhair) or DSH (for shorthair) even though it may look like a persian to you. So its much easier to know whether the cat is pure Persian or DLH by looking at its cert.

Why cert is important? With the cert you can trace back your cat lines, where the parents came from, what the color behind the lines, are they previously having any health or genetics problems and how good is your cat lines. Even though among the persians, the cat registry body have guidelines and standards to find which is better persians. So, all pedigree persians MUST comes with certificates.

O.k, now..can DLH be registered?...NO, simply because its no longer persians, maine coons or whatever breeds that has been mixed. So, if people ask you what breed is your cat? you have to admit it as its a DLH to avoid confusing and cheating people by thought it is a pedigree persian. DLH cannot compete as persians in all cat registry body shows. For CFA, DLH only can be compete in HHP class..which is all for household cats be it longhair or shorthair.

What about is the previous owner said to me that their parents is a Persians?. Well, you need to check their parents certificates. Both sire and dam MUST have certificates, if both have it, then your cat is a Persian and registerable. If you choose not to register your cat, you'll facing the problems in the future when people wants assurance to make sure that they're buying a pedigree persians. Registering not expensive at all, only about $10 or RM30. Some pet-shop sells their DLH for about RM1000-RM1800, which the same price you cat get a pedigree Persians even though its may not a good ones, but it is still a pedigree Persians, so why choosing DLH?

So, are you telling my cat is not good?. No, not at all, as long as you loves your cats, its all that counts. However, there are different kind of judging for both. A Persian is judged by their standards. like how big is their eyes, how flat is their face or small is their ears..this Persians can gain points and achived title to show that their lines is very good or not. While DLH have no written standards, they only been judged simply by their cleaness and  temperament and they can;t achived any title.

Then, how to know the simplest way whtr my cat is a Persian or DLH?. Simple by having the certificate from cat registry body such as CFA, TICA, FIFe. Without those you cannot claimed you cat is a Persian but it is a DLH, this is to avoid confusing.

If mixed breeds is not permit able, why petshop selling DLH?. Well, the answer is simple, profit!. You see, to get a pair of Persians might cause you up to RM10,000.00 depends on the quality. The better the higher. So, petshop always go for profit where they bought only one Persian usually pet-quality such like RM2000.00 and bred it with shorthair cat. The result can be a semi-longhair kitten which is DLH and some may look like a Persian itself. They claimed that their cat is a Persian and sells like a Persian price. When the buyer know it, its already too late. Some of the Petshop no longer have their Persian but they use their DLH to bred with DLH. It worse to bred the cats like a father to a daughter and a brother to a sister which not ethical! And just thought, all of this mother have too keep on breeding through the year for profit, while registered breeder usually bred no more then twice a year on the same dam.

Hope I already answer you. Should you need more info. Do not hesitate to email me.

All the best, and good luck!.

korn@hotmail.com

How do I know the cattery that I approached is CFA registered? . How many logos CFA Have?. Can you tell something about its history?

You can check whether the cattery is CFA registered or not by seeing their cattery number or better, you should ask for the Cattery certificate.

and if the cattery has been selected for excellence, CFA will provide the cattery with this certificate :-

CFA logo has been changed a few times since they first established in year 1906

Below few logos that i can recalled.

    100 years logo. current logo.

The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. was established in 1906 and is the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats  and the predominant cat breeding association in North America. CFA's stated mission is to preserve and promote the pedigreed breeds of cats and to enhance the well-being of all cats. CFA's first licensed cat shows were held in Buffalo, New York and Detroit, Michigan in 1906.

I have bought a Persian from a nerby Pet Shop and were given a certificate. However, I was informed by a FSM member that the certificate is not valid for your show?.

Thank you for this wonderful question, Actually this is not the first time we having case like this. That is why FSM not encourage people to buy cats from Pet shop.

To determine that your cat is really a Persian and not a mixed-Persian (Domestic LongHair) you must be given a cert from cat registry body such as CFA, TICA, Fife etc. NOT the shop certificate !.

Most of the pet shop try to cheat their customer by claimed that their cats is a Persian, Norwegian even a Siberian! and they sometimes provide the customer with their shop certificate to say that their cat really pedigree, This is not a valid cert, and u cannot use this cert to enter a pedigree (championship, premiership or kitten class -CFA) class in a licesed shows.

Some of the buyers even pay up to RM1500.00 for this cat, which the same price you already can get yourself a pedigree!.

Please do not get cheated by looking at the colors of the cat. We agree that some of the cats in pet shop has a very nice color, but how can u prove its temperament or health??. Mostly the cat in Pet Shop never get bath, never gets vaccination and you can't trace their lines to looks at their quality and temperament. This id difference, when you buy a cat from a licensed and a good breeder, you will see that their cats is cleaned, good in health, the vaccination is up to date and you will be provided with cert (from CFA, TICA etc) that you can trace back your cat lines.

We didn't say that you can't buy a cat from a pet-shop, however, please make sure that you know what you're buying.

However, all this non-pedigree cat is qualify to enter in the HouseHold Pet (HHP) in the CFA Shows. Please refer to www.cfainc.org or any of FSM FUN SHOWS.

Should you have more questions please do not hesitate to email me at arisham@felinemalaysia.com.

What Islam said about Neutering Pets?

We have referred to the "Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Islam Malaysia" regarding the neutering of pets.

Below is the "fatwa" issued by JAKIM (July 2002):

"All pets like cats and dogs are allowed to be neutered or spayed in order to maintain the health and

welfare of both the animals and the community."

"Bahawa mengembiri binatang kesayangan seperti kucing atau anjing hukumnya adalah diharuskan

dengan sebab-sebab tertentu iaitu bagi menjaga muslahat ummah."

After studying the messages of the aforementioned "mazhab"s and the medical viewpoint, 'JAKIM' has decided that neutering of cats for reasons of 'maslahat' is acceptable. It is in agreement with 'qaedah' (way) Fiqhiyyah which states "To choose the lesser of two evils".

Hi, I have a few questions regarding the Turkish Van cat, and will be really thankful if you can help me with them.

1. Can I have a Turkish Van as a pet in Malaysia? If so, where and how?

2. Does the Turkish Van have genitical defeciencies?

3. Is Malaysia's temperature suitable for the Turkish Van?

That's all, thank you for giving me your attention.

Hi..

Thank You for visiting our website...and sorry for the delayed since we're very busy preparing the next CFA licensed Show on January, next year.

Ok..here's your answers;

1. Firstly, there are no Turkish Van breeder yet in Malaysia, at least not a license one...if you want to have Van, well..you've to import it. you can visit one of the best turkish van cattery by browse to
http://www.turkishvan.com/

2. No, so far there are no report on Van's genetic deficiencies. However, you might want to check your breeder's line to make sure that the cat have a very good temperament (suitable for show & pet) and being well taken care of to avoid any health issue.

3. Yup, if the longest hair Persian can adopt well here, some even without air conditioning..i don't see why not semi-longhair as Van  cannot adopt our climate here..ofcourse, if you want to keep your cat's coat up to the best condition ( i.e for show) air-conditioning is suggested.

ABOUT THE TURKISH VAN

The van is a large white semi longhaired cat with coloured markings on the head and tail.  It is referred to a a piebald cat.  The coat has a cashmere texture and does not have an undercoat. The coat is also water resistant which goes hand in hand with one of their personality traits of  having a fascination with water.

Turkish Van Personality

The Turkish Van is extremely intelligent and imaginative. A Turkish cat is very lively, loving and demonstrative pet. They frequently chatter in answer to their owners, more often than not getting the last word in.

An intriguing aspect of Turkish Vans is their insatiable curiosity for water, A few are not interested but the majority can be found dipping their paws, toys and bedding in water bowls, or sitting in sinks and baths waiting for the tap to be turned on. They will also assist with rituals like dishwashing and often sit entranced while their owners are showering.

Turkish Van Coat

Turkish Vans are not a difficult cat to groom as the fur having no woolly undercoat does not knot. Bathing is not usually a problem, some vans even enjoy it.

hi

i have four kittens that are about 10 months old going on to 11 months.
all 4 are litter mates, 2 males and 2 females. the females are spayed
and i have intention to "neutered" the males too after they have reach
their 1 year age.

i read at your website that your society is about promoting responsible
breeding and ownership of pedigree cats.

my cats are not pedigree cats, they are considered domestic short-haired.

can i still join in the competitions organised by your society? is there
another society for domestic shorthaired cats?

thanks

Hi!...

thanxs for visiting our website...Firstly, congrats! for taking the right step neuter all your domestics..

we encourage of responsible for both and non-pedigree (DLH/DSH)...although we condemn
DLH and DSH breeding because of kitten mills.. ( i.e petshop, backyard breeders etc.)

We do have competition for domestics (household) be it shorthaired or longhaired 4 months above..your cat
will be participating under HouseHold Pet Category (pedigree will have 3 categories, Championship, Premiership (neuter pedigree) and Kitten)...and received the same rosettes for all 10th best places.

Judging in the Household Pet (HHP) classes is quite different than in the purebred classes. Since there is obviously no breed standard to work with, judges rate these cats on personality, general health, and distinctive appearance. A happy and well-cared-for cat is a winning cat. CFA does not register HHPs, nor does it score them for any regional or national placements or for titles. In CFA HHP rings, entries who are obviously healthy and well-groomed are given Merit (red and white) ribbons. Household Pets have their finals rings, too. How a cat places in a HHP final is influenced primarily by personality and looks. This competition is pretty unpredictable, and the human competitors are much more relaxed than those in the purebred competitions. There are no national placements at stake, no cattery reputations to hold up, no effect on future kitten prices or stud fees - it's just fun. HHP rings also provide some insight into a judge. Watch a ring and see how the judge handles these cats. A judge who handles HHPs indifferently is one who probably needs a break from the cat fancy. A judge who obviously has a splendid time playing with these beloved pets is one still remembers that cat shows are about cats, not fabric rosettes.

However, we need you to neutered your cats and vaccine them..since there are too many strays (domestic shorthaired (DSH)
or Domestic LongHair (DLH))..we cannot afford to see more on the streets. In your case, thanxs for taking the necessary action. ;)

Other than HOUSEHOLD (HHP) category your cat also can join the feline agility competition
where your cat will be tested for their agility...

We also sometimes have a show dedicated for household only...we call it FUN SHOW...where only household are allowed, pedigree brought just for education purposes.

Our next show will be on January 26th-27th in Mid valley..please visit our website and go to exhibitors for futher info.

Please do not hesitate to email us should you have more question..

again Thank You
